DISASTER MANAGEMENT

                                                                                   

Being a very big and large India is vulnerable to natural disasters. In India's policy framework Disaster management occupies an important place, as most affected people by disaster poor, they are India's predominant population. A roadmap i.e. National Disaster Framework is early warning systems, disaster prevention strategy, preparedness and response, disaster mitigation, and human resource development. This roadmap has been shared by Ministries and Departments of the Government of India with all the State Governments and Union Territory Administrations.

The Disaster Management Act was passed by the Lok Sabha on 28 November 2005, and by the Rajya Sabha on 12 December 2005.

  The Disaster Management Act
This act received the assent of the President of India on 9 January 2006
The Prime Minister of India as chairperson the act calls for the establishment of a National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The tenure of the members of the NDMA is 5 years. The NDMA has no more than nine members at a time, including a Vice-Chairperson.

The laying down of the policies guidelines for disaster management and to ensure very timely and effective implementation is the responsibility of the NDMA.
Under section 6 of the Act, it is responsible for laying "down guidelines to be followed by the State Authorities in drawing up the country Plans".
Under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), performs the primary purpose of capacity-building in disaster resiliency and crisis response disaster management coordinated response to natural or man-made disasters involving following:-
•   Mitigation (Or Risk Reduction),
•   Preparedness,
•   Response
•    Recovery
ISRO AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT
India is prone to many natural disasters. Satellites provide synoptic observations of the natural disasters at regular intervals that help in better planning and management of disasters.
